Robot servicing of datacenters requires concurrent innovation across four layers:
Physical rack design: Servers must seat and un-seat with a single push/pull motion, without cable connection steps. This requires integrating power, networking, and cooling connections into a single self-aligning adapter that makes reliable contact without human guidance. OCP alignment: SoftBank’s robot-friendly rack is designed to align with the Open Compute Project (OCP) standards where possible. The connector bottleneck: Blind-mate optical connectors capable of the reliability and insertion cycle life required for robot-repeated connection/disconnection are technically challenging. Standard MPO/MTP connectors are designed for occasional human connection, not thousands of robot-insertion cycles. Senko’s technology specifically addresses this — the company is a rare specialist.
